Here’s what you’ll need to know regarding your DOL knowledge & drive tests:

If you’re from another Country:

  • If you are from another country or Canadian Province: complete all steps to getting your first license
  • If you’re visiting Washington: you can use your out-of-country license for only 1 year

 

Preparing for the knowledge & drive tests:

Pre-Apply to Get Confirmation Number:

The Knowledge Test:

  • Study the book
  • Pre-apply for first license at www.dol.wa.gov 
  • Schedule a knowledge test appointment- $25.00 testing fee
  • Must bring photo ID and confirmation number from the pre application online
  • Pass the test with 32 out of 40 points (if you fail, there could be a waiting period before you can retest)
  • Visit a DOL office with original birth certificate & photo ID

*Your passing score is good for 2 years

The Driving Test:

  • Take traffic safety eduction course
  • Pass the Knowledge test, then you are able to schedule the Driving Test
  • $40 fee to use Accurate Driving Academy vehicle for test
  • $30 fee to use own vehicle for test

To obtain your drivers license at a DOL office you must:
  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Have your permit for at least 6 months
  • Have at least an accumulated 50 hours of supervised driving 

*If you provide your own vehicle you need to bring proof of insurance.
